NCTM (the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) developed standards for K-12 in 1988. These standards were developed to help ensure that all children had success in mathematics. These standards were adapted and rewritten for adults as "A Framework for Adult Numeracy Standards: The Mathematical Skills and Abilities Adults Need to be
Equipped for the Future," as part of the National Institute for Literacy's (NIFL) Equipped for the Future (EFF) project. How to implement these standards and framework is not always easy for adult
education teachers and students.
The internet is a vast resource for mathematics teachers. Unfortunately,
most material is not directed at nor appropriate for adult education
teachers and students. It is hoped that this special collection will
help teachers find materials appropriate for their adult students.
Lessons, ideas and information relevant for our community of learners
will be included in this collection. Ideas may be submitted by
online form (coming soon). Hopefully this collection will continue to grow and
evolve so that teachers can help their students truly become Equipped for
the Future.
